Where Do You Find People to Date?
with Gregg Millett

First Round for Discussion: In what unusual places have you met a person for a date? A few additions to the e-question:

"I was on a jury and after the trial dated the judge!"

"My highschool sweetheart started dating a friend of mine while I was sick. After four years of missing her so bad, I found out they had broken up and we had a couple dates. Thank "magic" was gone. Thank goodness I had that chance of I'd still be stuck on her."

"We had a nice date and I went back to her house to ask for a second date only to learn that she'd joined a convent!" I have always tried not take it personally.

Second Question: Where did you encounter a "special" person in your life?

Responses: High school, college, work, Singles Outreach activities (including the Friday Dance, Monday Night Live, Sunday Brunch, hike and bowling), Parents Without Partners, roller-skating, at a seminar, on vacation, on a street corner with a Rolling Stones Concert in the 60's, at a bar (which he owned), at church, on a blind date, at a baseball fame and volunteering at a hospital.

Third Question: Where do you think are good places to find people to date?

Responses:

The Singles Outreach Friday Dance (half said yes and half said no).

The Internet (half yes; half no).

On vacation (consensus was, just go for fun and if you meet someone, so be it).

Join a dating service like Compatible Connections (general agreement that was a good way to meet).

Come to "Monday Night Live" (general agreement, with the bottom line being -- just get out and do what you enjoy and be interested in meeting new people. Don't get focused on meeting someone. When you're out and about and having fun you'll encounter lots of people you like and you will probably find people to date and you will probably find someone you get serious with).

Shopping at a drug store.

On an airplane.

At a dance studio.

At a nudist camp!

The most unusual place was in Bermuda, as I was walking down the street at 3 am, carrying my shoes in my hand, singing and swishing my dress, after having danced all night, at the naval base. A male who was walking on the other side of the street, saw me, was intrigued, and followed along behind me to the beach, where we sat on a rock and watched the sun come up, over the ocean, and spent the next day together, on a picnic, and swimming all day. Unfortunately, he was English, and left the next day, to go back to England.

I’ve met people at a singles dance, a couple online, and a couple in a bar.

I met my husband in college. He was my English Teacher. I felt so attracted to him that I dropped out of the class and then we had a date!

In Southern Louisiana I met alady at the ‘Alibi Lounge’, and then we moved on to the “He Ain’t Here Bar’!

Well I think the most unusual place was under the sea in Mexico. I was on one of those submarine plunge and met someone who I dated for a few months. Its true there are many fish in the sea!

It was in a Irish bar, there were only two Italians in the whole place. It was meant to be.

I remember when I was about 19 I ran out of gas in the middle of an intersection in downtown St. Paul in the middle of rush hour. I was sooo embarrassed!! This guy stopped to help me, ended up going to get me gas, and then asked me out to dinner. He was the only person who even stopped!! We dated for awhile but we never did get serious.

Well, I met this guy on the freeway. I was with my girlfriend when I lived in California, I was 18 and he told me to pull off the freeway, I did, we dated, we lived together, I left him, end of story!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At a laundramat.

At a funeral!

On a group hike one of the hikers sprained her ankle. I helped her. I looked at her ankle and made a support wrap a piece of cloth. Then I helped her down the mountain. We were having fun and laughing. Then I carried her through a creek. Then we got married and lived happily ever after!
