Maybe these wonderful responses will help get your imagination going:
Next we put people in random pairs and had them plan an adventure together.
Here's what they're going to do: Final Thought (from Jack): Dream it and do it. More E-Question Responses Below: The greatest adventure for me in the past was going back to school when I was 54 years old in '89 and graduating at age 57 in' 92. I graduated with honors and got two bursaries. One was for continuous effort and one for highest average overall. I cried when I got my diploma as it meant so much to me. I had told my teachers that I would and they told me to go ahead and they would cry along with me and that's exactly what happened. I was so proud and my diploma hangs on the wall. The most adventuresome thing I have done as an adult is getting on a plane to meet three strangers (aka chat friends). Since that time I have traveled a lot making more friends . I truly enjoy this. Future adventures ...more travel...white water rafting maybe? I went by train to Florida by myself last year. I would like to go to Chicago the same way someday. One of my past adventures was living on my own for the first time at age 51. There was always someone involved in my life in one way or another up until then. It was a scary thought at first but the best thing I ever did for myself. It was a time out for over a year, no going out, other than to work; just kind of a transition period for me. Gave me the time I needed to go over my past and recognize some of the mistakes I had made in some choices in my life which I did not care to repeat. I truly enjoyed living alone, though I had my moments of being lonely, I still enjoyed my own company no matter what I chose to do. I found out a lot about myself and the person I truly was and felt at peace. A future adventure will be to be retired and spend time as I wished with no time frames involved. Adventure, my gawd, where would I ever begin? My time in the service? In Nam? In Aerospace? hmm. I do recall one when I was about13 or 14 -- afriend and I took some canteens, a few sandwiches and started hiking along the Blue Ridge Mountains one day and found an old Quarry. We thought, heay, this would be cool if we traversed across the face of it, which was about 100 yards across and maybe 400 feet deep. We would be as high as maybe 300 where we would cross because there was a small ledge. Well, maybe half way across, I looked down and absolutely froze because we were darn high up and the ledge we were walking on was only maybe 4 inches wide and we clung to rocks as hand-holds. Needless to say, I had 3 choices, let go, hang there until I fell or cross on. Luckily I chose to cross on with trembling legs. I learned 2 important lessons that day -- I can do anything if I try and don't ever be so stupid again! Past Adventure I'd say living in Germany. Future adventure is get a new career. My first trip to Las Vegas last year to meet friends from a chat room. I did a lot of "firsts" for me. First time traveling alone too. Future adventures, would hopefully include more traveling. I enjoy getting away from the every day routine. I went to Arizona and met a man I met through the internet. I had a great time!He plans to come to Winnipeg in the near future, so I guess that would be the future adventure Past adventure: travelling to France for horseback riding lessons and using that as an excuse to explore the back roads and incredible history of France. Future adventure: more travelling to and exploration of foreign lands The biggest past adventure of my whole life would be the bus trip from Calgary three months ago, to move down here to Missouri, to be with my new friend, followed immediately by spending the next seven weeks on the road with him. My future adventure, & the only one I want now, is to spend the rest of my life with him!

E-Question: Describe
a past adventure; and, what adventure are you planning for the future? White water rafting. Had a ball. I'm going to go sky-diving for my fiftieth birthday. I definitely want to go solo though. Not interested in having my instructor hear my confession on the way down! My last big adventure was to start writing (and I published a book!); my next adventure is to keep on writing. A past adventure that comes to mind is a trip to Italy -- flew to Rome, rented a car and started driving south. Two weeks later, having wandered as far south as the Amalfi Coast and as far north as Florence, was back in Rome to catch the flight home. But the real adventure was taking this trip with a person I'd been dating for four months (we're still together 18 years later!) and our next planned travel adventure is to Kunming, China. My whole life has been a conscious adventure since I separated from my husband 5 1/2 years ago. I attribute that to 2 things: One was the realization that came as soon as I moved into my own place, that I was finally at a point in my life -- single, no children at home, and financially able -- to explore all the things in life that were not as easy to do before. The other was the opportunities provided by Singles Outreach in a safe and supportive atmosphere. They provided the activities I'd always wanted to try and other single people who were available to help and support me. I know this sounds like an advertisement for the organization but it's truly my own response to the group from day one. The group makes it available and the rest is up to you. You proceed at your own comfort level. As for me, I like adventure, so with the help of Singles Outreach some of the things I've tried for the first time are: rock climbing, camping, playing Mexican Train dominoes and Scattergories, white water rafting, performing a stand-up comedy routine, leading activities from discussions to paddling, back-packing, para-sailing, caving, swing dancing, snow shoeing, and going on weekend trips to: Mont Tremblant in Canada, Cape Cod, Booth Bay Harbor in Maine, the Noppet Hill Bluegrass festival, the Rennaissance Faire in Tuxedo, NY. In the past 5 1/2 years I've filled 3 photo albums. The best part has been the community of friends I've become part of along the way. Life is an adventure! For me anyway. But traveling is always nice to look forward to and my companion and I plan to go to Florida soon. Something as simple as meeting new people is an adventure. I would venture to say that my whole life has been one big adventure after another. However, if I had to choose one it would be fighting a forest fire down south when I was 19 with a huge episode of morning sickness. We traveled from San Luis Obispo to fight a forest fire. We got to our destination and had to hike roughly 15 miles to get to where we needed to be. I had on my fire gear and carried my tools, including my chain saw, all the while getting violently sick. Not fun I tell you. We worked side by side with convicts for a few days. When we were done, we had to hike back to our camp in complete darkness. It was fun, hard work but I can tell you, I was never so happy to see the light of day. My next adventure is "life" after college. The Detroit River is a large and deep river that seperates Ontario from Michigan. It is about 45 feet deep in the middle and it is a very busy waterway that connects the great lakes. It is often travelled by many large lake freighters. I've grown up on this river, fishing and swimming and finally about 10 years ago, I took up Scuba Diving and me and a buddy decided it was time to explore the bottom of this fast moving river. The normal visibility was only about 5 feet but on this particular day, the water seemed clearer than normal. Our plan was to swim against the current as far as we could in our allotted time limit. We were swimming on the bottom of the river in about 15 feet of water and finally made our way to our limit and it was now time to turn around. As I turned, I was startled to see four Small Mouth Bass sitting behind me in a side by side formation, about a foot apart, just watching our every move. They were about 5 feet behind us and were not swimming but just sitting there. I slowly started to swim towards them and for every foot I swam, they backed up in unison the same amount of distance. I stopped, they stopped, all the time keeping their formation. I didn't want to disturb them so I started swimming to the right to go around them and as I swam to the right, they too swam to the right keeping their formation and again just watching us. I needed to get back to our destination because when you are under water breathing from a tank, time is very important so I started off to the left and again they followed. I finally had no choice but to go up about 5 feet above them and they finally decided I was too spooky looking and scattered. I had many nice adventures diving in the Detroit River but this one was just too cool. For those of you that are not familiar with Small Mouth Bass, they are a sport fish that grow upto about a foot in length and a great fish to catchon the end of your fishing line. They do not have teeth per say and are pretty harmless as far as a threat. My next adventure hopefully this summer will be to do some backpacking up north. I've been checking it out and there is a beautiful National Park called Algonquin National Park. I did some normal car-camping there last year but what I am interested in is wilderness camping where the only way in is by canoe. I'm looking forward to it. |
